Thousands of new plants in new Plant Finder

Among the plants listed in the latest edition of the UK Royal Horticultural Society’s annual publication, RHS Plant Finder 2012-2103, 3,380 are new. This amount equates to about 5 per cent of the total. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2011, Anemone ‘Wild Swan’, which was exhibited by Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants, is one of the plants entering the book for the first time with the largest number of suppliers.
The top new entries are Anemone ‘Wild Swan’, Clematis Alaina (‘Evipo056′), Daphne odora Marianni (‘Rogbret’), Pulmonaria ‘Blake’s Silver’, Clematis Zara (‘Evipo062′), Geum ‘Fire Storm’, Leucanthemum x superbum ‘Banana Cream’, Potentilla fruticosa ‘Red Lady’ and Rosa Wollerton Old Hall (‘Ausblanket’).
“Getting together all the information within RHS Plant Finder is a massive task for the team,” says Janet Cubey, Editor-in-Chief of the book. “But because we get so much positive reaction when the latest edition comes out we know that it is worth that effort. It is really interesting to spot the new plants that are likely to be most popular, and the number of nurseries supplying the new entries since last years’ book is a quick gauge to this.”
Apart from listing suppliers from the UK and the Republic of Ireland, RHS Plant Finder 2012-2013 also has an increasing number of entries from mainland Europe.

The latest RHS Plant Finder 2012-2103 is available by mail order and from bookstores in the UK for £15.99. This encyclopaedia of around 70,000 cultivated plants provides the most up-to-date information on where plants can be bought by gardeners looking for their favourites and also for those planning to try some different cultivars.
