Strategic partnership Dümmen Orange and Esmeralda Breeding

Dümmen Orange and Esmeralda Breeding have announced a strategic partnership during the last week held trade fair Proflora 2017 in Colombia last week. Both companies have agreed on a license that gives Dümmen Orange partners access to the Esmeralda product portfolio. Under the new partnership, Dümmen Orange is the exclusive agent for Europe, Africa, Middle East and some countries in South America and Asia. The products include Alstroemeria, Aster, Eryngium, Hypericum, Limonium, Rice flower, Solidago, Statice, Rosa and Veronica. Esmeralda Breeding will continue their own sales in the other area’s where they already have a strong customer network.
Twenty years of breeding
According to Ana Maria Quiñones, R&D Director of Esmeralda Breeding the partnership opens new markets for the broad assortment of products of this company. “We have been breeding for the last 20 years and now we are ready to release our innovative varieties to third parties. We believe that our partnership with Dümmen Orange will bring us opportunities to develop our assortment further and grow with new customers across the globe”, she says in a press release.
‘Huge opportunities for Alstroemeria and Hypericum’
Philippe Veys, Global Product Manager at Dümmen Orange notes in the same press release that the Esmeralda Breeding range has a great history and future potential. “Our current assortment will be enriched with new products and especially for Alstroemeria and Hypericum we see huge opportunities in the market. The Esmeralda Breeding product range will be showcased to customers as part of Dümmen Orange’s marketing activities. We expect to be in full business in 2018.”

Nearly 100 patented varieties
Esmeralda Breeding established in 1999 and located in the Andean Region of Ecuador, as part of the Esmeralda Group, is described in the press release as a premium breeder of many innovative and market leader varieties. “Its varieties are very carefully selected based on, productivity, colour, texture, vase life and disease resistance. These different varieties are then introduced and are exclusively patented and licensed. To date, they have nearly 100 patented varieties available to the market and many more that are still to come in the upcoming years. Their visionary thinking pushes them to develop new varieties that often set the trend in the industry.”
Dümmen Orange positions itself nowadays as a leading company in the breeding and development of cut flowers, bulbs, tropical plants, pot plants, bedding plants and perennials with an annual turnover of around €260 m. The company employs over 7,300 people worldwide.
