“Floranova’s latest breeding has focused on flower size”, says this UK based breeder about its recently introduced F1 Vinca Blockbuster series. The company showcased the series at the California Spring Trials (CAST) 2018 and will introduce it June 12 – 15 to the European market at the FlowerTrials 2018 in Netherlands. “This new series of 10 colours brings all of the attributes you would expect from Floranova Vinca, but with huge flowers.”
Flowers 5.5-6 cm even in extreme conditions
Blockbuster has according to FloraNova a compact, well-branched habit as seen with Vitesse, but with much larger flowers that maintain their well-rounded form. “The flowers are capable of reaching 5.5-6 cm, even in extreme conditions. The colour intensity of Blockbuster is much greater, even in full sun conditions.”

Also, Pelargonium peltatum F1 Reach Out debuted at CAST 2018 and will be highlighted at the European FlowerTrials 2018. Reach Out is described as a brand new series of F1 Ivy Leaf Geranium. “Early to flower and easier to produce than competing varieties due to its compact habit and short internodes. The Reach Out series produces a full canopy of flowers all over the plant.” Another important feature FloraNova mentions is that Reach Out does not get ‘tangled up’ in production like other varieties.

The third CAST 2018 and FlowerTrials 2018 novelty is F1 Pansy Freefall XL, although Canadian horticulturist Dr. Allan Armitage praised already in his CAST 2017 review “the calm color of Freefall XL Azure Blue.” He also noted that this brand-new offering allows retailers and consumers another choice in the basket and container pansies made so popular by the Cool Wave series.
Pansy Freefall was already introduced in 2011. The XL version has according to the breeder the same great habit as the original series, but has the added benefit of much larger flowers. “XL is easy for growers thanks to its non-tangling habit and 10-14 day earlier flowering in Spring than Cool Wave.”
