Dutch breeding company Evanthia submitted new Brassicas for the cut flower industry to the Novelty Showcase of the German trade fair IPM 2017, which was held last month. Empire Katya for example has deep pink, late colouring, and curled leaves. It is described as a bushy type which suits to a trouble free crop for late harvest, also outdoors.
Important ‘cut flower’ in Netherlands
Evanthia has been active in the Brassica breeding for many years. “This resulted in a top selection in ornamental cabbage, valued for the following qualities important to the grower: desirable stem length and disease tolerance. Thanks to the appealing appearance and the good vase life, our Brassica gained popularity and has become an important ‘cut flower’ in Netherlands.”
