Terra Nova Nurseries in Canby, Oregon (US) announced today a sneak peek of a new variety named Heucherella ‘Onyx’. The deeply cut and glossy leaves of ‘Onyx’ are described as true-black. “The blackest Heucherella yet. Compared to ‘Burnished Bronze’ it is more vigorous, darker, glossier, and with a larger leaf and habit”, claims the nursery. ‘Burnished Bronze’ is another Terra Nova Heucherella. ‘Onyx’ should also be a rust-resistant variety that thrives in sun to part shade. “The dense, medium-large, mounding habit makes this heucherella great for landscapes or mixed containers. Even though ‘Onyx’ loves the heat and humidity, it flourishes in hardiness zones 4-9, and does great in the Northwest of the US.”
This Heucherella has a foliage height of 10”, foliage spread of 16” and flower height of 15”. From plug to a 4”-pot, the finish time is according to Terra Nova between 4-6 weeks. For a gallon-sized pot, the finish time is 8-10 weeks.
