At a recently held presentation of Nerine at the premises of the Royal General Bulb Growers’ Association (KAVB) in Hillegom, Netherlands some new varieties from the Maatschap Nerine Veredeling clearly stood out. This Dutch based venture which is fully dedicated to the breeding of Nerine, showed a new group of varieties and grew already commercially interesting numbers. According to Bloembollenvisie, the official mouthpiece of the association, this group has some interesting features such as a considerable stem length, floriferous and a remarkable colour variation. The editor of Bloembollenvisie also emphasised that the new varieties can be grown outside. The rough weather of the past weeks has been an interesting test case, he concludes. Nerine ‘Cassandra’ [pictured] was one of the new cultivars.
