For Dutch based breeding company Prudac Allium is a multi-purpose crop. “In general the ´consumables´ we work on, are multi-tasking, both at consumer and at professional level”, says breeder Ard Ammerlaan. It is not without reason that the interspecific Allium he developed is named Quattro F1. It is a hardy (up to -25° C) perennial. The edible young tender leafs and flower stems have an onion-garlic taste, and can be eaten as spring onion. The flowers have a vase life of approximately of 2,5 weeks, which make Quattro F1also interesting for commercial cut flower production. Last but not least this Allium hybrid is an attractive garden plant, which grows bigger year after year. The recommended pot size in 9 to 12 cm.
