UK-based Burncoose Nurseries submits Fargesia murieliae ‘Luca’ to this year’s RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year competition and describes it as an easy to maintain, compact and evergreen bamboo. “This variety is a real dwarf – only reaching a height of 40 to 50cm with a maximum width of about 1m. As such, its compact growth and ball form making it very suitable as a terrace or balcony plant.” As ‘Luca’ is according to the nursery completely cold hardy it should be perfect for planting in gardens without its rhizomes spreading and invading the garden.
‘Bamboo Brothers’
‘Luca’ is bred by Frank Schnupper from Westerstede (Germany). The royalty management is done by Van Vliet New Plants in Netherlands. Schnupper also developed Fargesia murieliae ‘Elias’ which got a Bronze Medal at the 2018 Spring edition of Belgian trade fair Florall. Van Vliet New Plants underscores that these two ‘Bamboo Brothers’ are the lowest Fargesia murieliae in the market.” [read more]
