Calamagrostis x acutiflora ‘Lightning Strike’ is one of the new products to be introduced by Emerald Coast Growers (ECG) at Cultivate’18, the US trade fair in Columbus, Ohio that will be held from July 14 to July 17. ECG describes the foliage of this Feather Reed Grass as lovely, featuring broad central stripes of creamy white, edged in green. “With an upright habit, it reaches 3 feet high. It prefers full sun to part shade. Hardy in Zones 4 to 10.”

A different twist

Gardenworld sells ‘Lightning Strike’ wholesale as part of the Growing Colors program and talks about “a different twist on your typical Calamagrostis variety, late summer plumes will persist through winter if not cut back.” Gardenworld also underscores that ‘Lightning Strike’ is deer resistant, is great for late summer and fall interest and that it can tolerate full sun and dry conditions.

According to Roots & Rhizomes which sells Calamagrostis x acutiflora ‘Lightning Strike’ to the general public in North America Brett Jones of former Berry Family Nurseries discovered the new variety.
