Earlier this year at the California Spring Trials 2017 and the European FlowerTials 2017, Israeli propagator Hishtil already presented high stem, grafted Calibrachoas, which were developed by Hishtils Research & Development department. Hishtil introduced the series under the brand name FunTaStick Calibrachoa. Now Eason Horticultural Resources (EHR), a horticulture broker based in Ft. Wright, Kentucky (US) brings them to the Nort American market as Calibrachoa Hi-Graft Standard. These new decorative forms of calibrachoa feature an 8- to 12-inch stem with a ball of ever-blooming calibrachoa on top. They come in four colors, and growers can have them ready to go in time for Mother’s Day 2018. According to EHR, several different growers trialed them this year and found them to be easy to grow and care for.
‘Grafting ensures higher survivability’
Hishtil describes FunTaStick Calibrachoa as a new ornamental and esthetic combination achieved by grafting herbaceous ornamental Calibrachoa having a short height and bushy growth habit on a rootstock containing high-single stem. “Grafting ensures higher survivability, long shelf life, improved growth performance and compatibility for perpendicular stability when planted in a pot and/or containers.”

Basil and peppers
The high stem, grafted Calibrachoas are an addition to a basil and some ornamental peppers that are introduced some years ago by Hishtil, also under the brand name FunTaStick. The colorful ornamental and edible peppers were for instance on display at the IPM Essen 2015 and Fruit Logistica 2015, both in Germany.
