“There have been so many exciting new clematis introduced in recent years that I hesitate to bring news of another, but this one genuinely is unique. It’s the first-ever double clematis with green flowers”, says UK plantsman Graham Rice about Clematis ‘Zo11050’ Green Passion on his blog at the site of the UK garden charity Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). He also emphasizes that Green Passion which is bred by Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer from Clematis specialist J. van Zoest, is not cream with a few green tints. “It’s really green.”
Clematis Green Passion is described by the Dutch nursery as a hardy climber with stems up to 2 m long from the Patens Group. The flowers have a diameter of 8-10 cm, and are double. Later the tepals will get a bit white tips.
Enough stock
It is raised by J. van Zoest in 2007 and selected in 2011. Since then the new variety is propagated and finally introduced in 2016. According to Snoeijer there is now enough stock of Green Passion.
Rice refers at the RHS site to Thorncroft Clematis as the supplier in the UK. Accidentally the leading magazine Horticultural Week recently discussed the novelties Thorncroft will show at the Chelsea Flower Show which will be held from May 23 to May 27, 2017 in London. Clematis Green Passion will be one of the new varieties.
Cut flower
Clematis Green Passion can also be grown as cut flower. However growing, trading and sale as cut flower is only permitted under a contract
