“In the past 15 years, the Heuchera and Helenium assortments have been supplemented by a lot of impressive new varieties”, concludes the German association for perennial growers (Bundes deutscher Staudengärtner – BdS) in occasion of the latest Heuchera and Helenium trials in Germany. The BdS recently published the results. The first Helenium trial in Germany was completed in 2004. The recent trial included 30 new varieties. Ten 10 varieties stood out during this trial. They were awarded the three stars of excellence.
Some varieties ceased shortly after introduction
Also 120 Heuchera varieties, which are new since 2000, were trialled during the last few years. The BdS regrets that unfortunately the supply of some varieties already ceased shortly after their market introduction. The association hopes that the best performing varieties with three stars (excellent) as well as the varieties with two stars (very good) will be available over a longer period of time. Also here 10 varieties were awarded three stars.
The BdS published the results (in German) in the leaflets ‘Die besten Helenium’ and ‘Die besten Heuchera’.
