Gardening Express, a company which positions itself as the UK’s No. 1 Online Specialist with Hardy Plants is entering Clematis ‘Taiga’ at the Chelsea Flower Show 2017 which will be held May 23-27 in London (UK). ‘Taiga’ is bred by Shigeaki Ochiai from Japan. The royalty management in Europe is done by Plantipp. This agency refers to the flowers of the new clematis and says: “A flower can be like a piece of art. Take one look at Clematis ‘Taiga’ and you will see why. Its flowers are truly one of a kind. The Picasso among plants.”
According to the agency ‘Taiga’ blooms in summer and autumn abundantly with bright blue-purple flowers. Throughout the season, the colours and shape of the flowers change ‘spectacularly’. ‘Taiga’ grows to 100 cm wide and 250 cm high and should be winter hardy to -15 °C.
‘Taiga’ won at the Dutch trade fair Plantarium 2016 a Silver Medal. The jury of the Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society also referred to the spectacular flower shape and flower colours, and added: “floriferous and plants rather tender.” At the same trade fair ‘Taiga’ won a Press Award. ‘Taiga’ was submitted to the new plants contest of this show by Joh. Stolwijk & Zn Nurseries.
