At the upcoming French trade fair Salon du Végétal (February 19-21) propagator La Forêt will introduce Vaccinium ‘Pink Lemonade’. This new self-fertile blueberry has tasty fruits distinguished by their pink candy colour when ripe. “Attractive throughout the year, by its abundant flowering of white flowers in the spring, and then by its colourful fruit, its autumnal colouration and by its red twigs in the winter”, says La Forêt. ‘Pink Lemonade’ is one of the novelties in the Innovert-competition for new plants on Salon du Végétal.
Earlier Vaccinium ‘Pink Lemonade’ was introduced on the North American market by Briggs Plant Propagators in Elma, Washington (US). The new variety derives from a cross including both V. ashei and V. corymbosum. The cross resulting in ‘Pink Lemonade’ was made by Mark Ehlenfeldt and selected at the Marucci Center for Blueberry and Cranberry Research and Extension in Chatsworth, New Jersey (US). Briggs advises this blueberry for mixed borders, mass plantings and fruit production, thus emphasizing the ornamental value of ‘Pink Lemonade’ as well as the taste of the berries.
