Award winners of IPM 2013 in Germany

In total 43 new varieties and product forms were submitted to the Novelty Showcase of the IPM 2013 trade fair in Essen, Germany (January 22-25). Yesterday the Zentral- verband Gartenbau (Central Horticultural Association) which organized the showcase together with the trade fair, announced the winners. In the category ‘spring flowers’ the annual Arabis hybride ‘Alabaster’ from German young plant producer Kientzler is awarded. Best bedding and balcony plant of the IPM 2013 is Verbena hybrid Lanai Twister Red from Syngenta Seeds, best flowering pot plant Senecio cineraria Red Fox Todaisy from Dümmen (Germany), best perennial Primula hybride ‘Claddagh’ from Fitzgerald (Ireland), best woody plant ‘Fagus sylvatica ‘Asterix’ from nursery Stöckmann (Germany), best cut flower Eustoma grandiflorum (Lisianthus russellianus) Rosanne Green from Sakata, best tub plant Mahonia eurybracteata ‘Soft Caress’ from Van Son & Koot (Netherlands) and finally best of the new category Edibles is Vaccinium vitis-idea ‘Red candy’ also from Van Son & Koot. A special prize goes to Magnolia hybride ‘Cleopatra’ submitted by Plantipp (Netherlands). Judges call this plant an exceptional eye-catcher with a fascinating flower colour.
